The Work Goes On

Ron made this really cool ladder for the loft. It slides from side to side on an iron rod. This way it can be moved out of the way. Next he is installing a pulley system to raise it to the ceiling. We are putting in a wood stove for heat. Here is the hearth. That is slate tiles on the base. I had seen them in Cindy's guest bath and really like them. We will be using them in the bathroom when we get to it!
I put a skim coat of mortar on the back board. Next we are covering it with manufactured stone.
Ron installed more pine siding! It looks so great! It helps us imagine what the finished project will look like. 2/7th of the walls done. Then we will do the roof!!!!
This cabin is so much fun and we are really looking forward to a time when we can decorate and relax when we go out there.

Waste Not, Want Not.....

Every storm here on our farm brings down a tree or two. Occasionally, that tree can be rather large! So Ron spends a few hours each month cutting up the trees into fire wood. The last tree that fell was a huge hardwood cherry. Now, we already had enough fire wood to last several years so what to do with all that cherry wood? Chairs for around the fire pit of course! Tried them out today and they work great!

Working Girls

I have a little flock of chickens. Fourteen hens and one rooster. The girls work hard all day doing chicken chores like eating bugs, producing fertilizer and best of all, laying eggs! They are very social! And they keep tabs on each other!
They have favorite boxes and will wait in line for their turn rather than use one of the others.
For several hours they cluck and fuss until everything is just right.
Finally they reward us with fresh eggs for our table and even extras to share with our friends.
Love those chickens.

Deer Gulch Cabin

We have been working on the cabin every chance we get! Here are a few pics of our progress. This is the kitchen area. The wiring is in as is the light. This is the door that leads into the bathroom. Here is a shot of the main room. We are in the process of insulating the walls.
More pics to come!

Eggciting!

Brown eggs from our own little flock! Waiting for the colors to develop is VERY difficult.
Hmm.
Look at these beautiful colors! Brown eggs really turn out jewel tone colors.
The next morning a look out the window tells us the Easter Bunny had made us a visit!
Expecting to gather a lot of eggs, Abby brings along a huge basket!
Eli slows down long enough for me to catch a shot of him.
the race to find the most eggs continues for about 45 minutes!
Keep looking Abby!
Aha, A golden egg!!!!
So much fun and now we have donuts, cereal and orange juice to hold us until dinner and then sitting down with full tummies to watch General Conference. A perfect day.

Easter Treats

Oh the culinary joys of this season!! Ham, mashed potatoes, ambrosia salad, deviled eggs and all sorts of tasty treats! But save room for desert! Lemon cupcakes plumb with dark raspberry filling and frosted in rich butter creme.
And who can resist crispy squares dipped in milk chocolate!
Happy Easter!
